Sgt. Flag #3

G-Man Comics; Crowdfunded

Micro-publisher G-Man Comics celebrated its fourth birthday with their full line-up including Sgt. FlagLynxInvictus: OutrageG-Men UnitedSimon N. Kirby, AgentTaranis The Thunderlord, and the Handbook of the G-Man Universe, all of which except the last one had a unifying and celebratory cover design spotlighting many of the characters.

Often when you see the kind of enthusiasm they put into their comics, you spot it when that’s the only nice thing you can say. But that’s not the case here. What is clearly a passion project for writer and editor-in-chief Rik Offenberger and his colleagues is more than that. They’ve created fun, entertaining comics with a Bronze Age feel yet done in a modern way.

Sgt. Flag is an enjoyable twist on the familiar patriotic hero model. It’s not reinventing the wheel, but it’s a solid, entertaining story that does the job of any good comic: it makes you want to read more.
