G-Man Comics proudly congratulates our friend, cover artist, and longtime collaborator Steven Butler on receiving the Inkpot Award at San Diego Comic-Con.
The Inkpot Award was established in 1974 by Comic-Con International to recognize achievement and contributions to comics, science fiction, fantasy, film, animation, fandom, and related creative fields. Over the years, the award has been presented to influential creators and personalities in entertainment.
For Steven Butler, this recognition celebrates a career that has spanned decades and touched generations of comic book fans.
Steven first made his mark in the comics industry during the 1980s and became known for his dynamic artwork, expressive characters, and energetic storytelling. His early work included contributions to titles such as Cat & Mouse and The Badger. His talent soon brought him to major publishers, where he worked on some of the industry’s most recognizable characters.
Steven’s career has also included memorable work for Marvel Comics, where he illustrated characters such as Spider-Man, Silver Sable, Scarlet Spider, and other popular heroes. His work on Web of Spider-Man and other Spider-related projects showcased his ability to capture the excitement, movement, and personality of Marvel’s wall-crawler.
One of Steven’s most celebrated achievements came during his long association with Archie Comics, where he helped redefine the look and feel of the Archie Universe during the company’s “New Look” era. His modern, action-oriented style brought new energy to characters like Archie Andrews, Betty Cooper, Veronica Lodge, Jughead Jones, and the rest of the Riverdale gang, introducing them to a new generation of readers while respecting their classic roots.
Beyond mainstream superhero comics, Steven has continued to create stories that showcase his versatility as an artist. His credits include work for independent publishers, creator-owned projects, and collaborations with writers and publishers who appreciate his artistic voice.

From watching your career grow to having the opportunity to work with you on G-Man Comics, it has been an incredible journey.
Standing beside you at San Diego Comic-Con when you received the Inkpot Award was a moment I will never forget. Seeing the look on your face as you received this honor and sharing that moment with your daughter Lilly, who has been such an important part of your creative journey, made it even more special.
The comic book industry is built on creators who inspire fans and fellow professionals alike. Steven Butler is one of those creators. His work has entertained readers for decades, and his kindness has made just as lasting an impression as his artwork.
