HISTORY
Dan Hagen began his professional life as a journalist and journalism instructor, serving at the Sullivan News-Progress and later in the Eastern Illinois University Journalism Department. A passionate communicator with a curious mind, he became increasingly fascinated by technology’s role in shaping public discourse and national security.
After early retirement from academia, Hagen was recruited into the FBI’s Special Technologies Division for his aptitude in systems design and his uncanny ability to translate complex ideas into usable applications. Known as the Gentleman Analyst, Hagen is now the Bureau’s premier designer of nonlethal field gadgets, information-encryption systems, and communication jammers used by both human and enhanced operatives. His background in storytelling gives him a unique edge in understanding how criminals think and communicate, making him one of the FBI’s most trusted minds in behavioral technology development.
POWERS & ABILITIES
Scientific Inventor: Hagen designs custom gadgets ranging from surveillance drones and stealth recording devices to field-ready signal disruptors. His creations emphasize analog stability blended with cutting-edge interface adaptability.
Cyber-Linguist: With a deep knowledge of semiotics and narrative structures, Hagen specializes in decoding symbolic communication used in encrypted criminal networks.
Tactical Analyst: His journalism-trained eye for detail allows him to uncover patterns in intelligence materials overlooked by standard algorithms.
Enhanced Intuition: Through decades of narrative analysis, Hagen has developed a powerful intuition for identifying disinformation, misdirection, and psychological manipulation in both digital and personal interactions.
WEAPONS & PARAPHERNALIA
Mobile Gadget Lab Briefcase: A reinforced portable workstation containing diagnostic tools, microfabrication kits, chemical testers, and encrypted data ports.
Augmented Glasses Interface: HUD-enabled lenses allowing real-time data comparison, facial-recognition overlays, and encrypted Bureau communications.
“Schwermin Coil” EMP Pen: A covert electromagnetic pulse emitter disguised as a fountain pen, useful for short-range data wipes and equipment disabling.
Custom Listening Device, “The Whisperer”: A passive-range sonic amplifier embedded in a vintage-looking lapel microphone, capable of isolating conversations in a crowd.
Prototype Bureau Jetpack, “SkyScriptor Mk I”: A compact vertical-lift jetpack designed by Hagen himself. Lightweight and stabilized by dual microturbines, it allows short-range flight of up to 2 miles and rapid vertical ascent. It includes an emergency auto-deploy parachute and stealth-suppression mode for covert insertions.
