HISTORY

Before Simon N. Kirby became known as The Agent, before the G-Men became one of America’s most formidable collections of heroes, there was Wilber Whitney.

Wilber Whitney was a brilliant but unstable marine biologist obsessed with the ability of sharks to survive virtually unchanged for millions of years. Sharpe believed that the genetic characteristics of Earth’s most successful predators could be isolated and transferred to human beings. When no legitimate institution would support his increasingly dangerous experiments, Sharpe continued the work himself.

The experiment succeeded, although not in the manner Whitney intended.

His body was transformed into a bizarre human-shark hybrid standing only three feet tall. Despite his diminutive stature, Whitney possessed tremendous strength, powerful jaws, rows of razor-sharp teeth, and an almost insatiable predatory instinct. His altered physiology also gave him an uncanny ability to disappear into darkness, water, and confined spaces with startling speed. Witnesses sometimes swore that Bob Shark simply vanished, earning him the nickname “The Phantom of the Deep.”

Bob Shark has always preferred the simpler name.

When Simon N. Kirby assembled the original G-Men, Bob Shark became the first superhuman criminal the fledgling team faced. What initially appeared to be a bizarre but manageable case quickly became a nightmare.

The inexperienced heroes underestimated their three-foot-tall opponent.

They paid for that mistake with a life.

During the battle, Bob Shark attacked one of the original G-Men and devoured the hero before Agent Kirby and the others could save their teammate. The death permanently changed Agent Kirby. What had begun as an adventure became deadly serious, teaching Agent Kirby that placing extraordinary people in harm’s way meant accepting responsibility for whether they came home.

The G-Men eventually defeated Bob Shark, but there was no celebration.

Their first victory was also their first funeral.

For Agent Kirby, Bob Shark would forever represent the moment the G-Men stopped playing hero and learned what being a G-Man could cost.

POWERS & ABILITIES

Superhuman Strength: Despite standing only three feet tall, Bob Shark possesses strength vastly disproportionate to his size. He is capable of overpowering a normal adult and can contend physically with superhuman opponents.

Powerful Jaws: Bob Shark’s primary natural weapon is his enormous mouth, filled with multiple rows of extremely sharp teeth. His bite can tear through flesh, bone, and many conventional materials.

Aquatic Adaptation: Bob Shark can breathe underwater and withstand tremendous underwater pressure. He is an exceptionally fast and agile swimmer.

Enhanced Senses: Bob Shark possesses an extraordinary sense of smell and can detect minute traces of blood. He can also function effectively in near-total darkness.

Predatory Reflexes: His altered nervous system provides exceptional reaction speed, particularly when attacking at close range.

Phantom Movement: Bob Shark has an uncanny talent for escaping observation. He uses darkness, small spaces, water, ventilation systems, shadows, and his unusual size to seemingly disappear. Although early witnesses believed this was a supernatural power, no actual teleportation ability has ever been confirmed.

PERSONALITY

Bob Shark is intelligent, theatrical, vicious, and surprisingly articulate. He is fully aware that his size causes opponents to underestimate him and deliberately encourages that reaction.

He possesses a macabre sense of humour and enjoys presenting himself as almost ridiculous until the moment he attacks.

Bob Shark does not consider himself a monster. In his view, civilization is merely a complicated food chain, and he has improved his position within it.
